Sari Nordman is a New York -based, freelance dancer-choreographer, video-artist and dance teacher. She has presented her work for Atlantic Center for the Arts, AUNTS, Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance!, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Center for Performance Research, Columbia University, CounterCurrent Festival, Danspace Project, Dixon Place, FiveMyles Gallery, The Irondale Center, Movement Research at the Judson Church, SHIM Finland at Odetta Gallery, Performance Mix Festival and Triskelion Arts, among other venues in the US; TsakBam Festival in Greece, and for Alpo Jaakola Statuary Park, Dance Theater Hurjaruuth, Full Moon Dance Festival, Pop & Jazz Conservatory and Zodiak in Finland.
Her film work has been presented at Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance!, Dance Film Lab Moderated Screening at Gibney Dance Center, Dixon Place, FiveMyles Gallery, The Irondale Center, Performance Mix Festival, SHIM Finland at Odetta Gallery, SPARK Summer Film Fest, Triskelion Arts and UnSpace Gallery in the US; ViDEOSKiN at The Edge Gallery in Canada; at TsakBam Festival in Greece; at Acid! Live! @ Merikerho, Alpo Jaakola Statuary Park, Eckerö Post and Customs House and Teatteri Avoimet Ovet in Finland; and at Radical Heritage in India. Her film Assimilation was an official selection for Women CineMakers 2018 Biennial Edition.
She has enjoyed residencies at Atlantic Center for the Arts, Bearnstow, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Fantasy Generator at Hollins University and Tofte Lake Center in the US; at Eckerö Post and Customs House, Loimaan Taidetalo and Zodiak Z Free in Finland; and at Solo works @ 77 in Greece. In the summer 2019 she will attend Olo Residency in Finland and Catwalk residency in NY to work on her new Towers video project.
She has worked as a dancer with Dean Moss on several of his productions since 2009. She holds a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degree from New York University’s Tisch Dance Department.
She has received funding from the American Scandinavian Foundation, American Scandinavian Society, Consulate General of Finland in New York, Finlandia Foundation National, Finlandia Foundation New York Metropolitan Chapter, Helsinki Culture and Library Fund and Municipality of Loimaa to support her artistry in the US and in Finland.
She has taught dance at classclassclass in New York and Tanssille, ry., Dansart and Helsinki Dance Company morning classes in Finland. She has taught dance to various ages, abilities and backgrounds of students and has worked as a teaching artist in New York City public schools since 2007.
She is also a certified personal fitness trainer through International Sports Sciences Association and certified NYC tour guide.
